Who Are Some Of The Famous BCCI Presidents?

Board of control for cricket in India that is known as BCCI was founded on 4 December 1928 as a national governing body of Cricket by players of a club in Delhi to end the monopoly of the Britishers in the game of cricket. The national sports authority of India has no such control over BCCI and cricket as it has overall sports in India. It is a private and autonomous body. BCCI is not an instrumentality of the state.

The Board of control for cricket in India (BCCI) is the organisation that is responsible for managing all the cricket-related things in India. Raymond Eustace Grant Govan 

He was the 1st president of the Board of control for cricket in India. Raymond Eustace Grant Govan was a known British industrialist of his time. He also founded Indian National Airways Ltd. Which is an aviation company. This company was formed in 1993. Govan was also a sports enthusiast. He was appointed as president of BCCI for 5 years from the year 1928 to 1933. He has also served as the president of the cricket club of India. He along with the BCCI secretary Anthony De Mello had an active role in affiliating BCCI with the International Cricket Council (ICC). 

Jagmohan Dalmiya 

He is the only BCCI president who served BCCI thrice and that too in different tenures. His role in BCCI started as the representative of Bengal (cricket association of Bengal). Later on, he was appointed as the treasurer of the BCCI in the year 1983. He was also elected as the president of the international cricket council and that position, and he held for 3 years. Jagmohan Dalmiya also holds the record of being the first non-cricketer to hold the position of ICC president. For the first time, he became the president of BCCI in the year 2001. When his first tenure as BCCI’s president ended, he became the president of the cricket association of Bengal. He again became the president of BCCI in 2013 when the current president of BCCI N Srinivas resigned due to IPL spot-fixing charges. His last was in the year 2015. But this time he passed away due to a heart attack. Jagmohan Dalmiya was also named the world’s top six sports executive in the year 1996.

  1. Srinivasan 

N Srinivasan who is a known Industrialist and also managing director of India Cement Limited was elected as the BCCI president twice. His first tenure was from 2011 to 2013. His second Tenure was from 2013-2014. He has also held the position of secretary of the board. The Chennai Super King which is among the most successful teams in the Indian premier league is owned by Srinivasan’s India cements Limited. He has served as the president of the Tamil Nadu golf federation and also the cricket association of the state. Srinivasan was also appointed as president of ICC in the year 2014. However, later he was removed from the position of president of ICC. His name was also involved in the IPL spot-fixing controversy. And that is the reason why he left the position of BCCI president. His name is involved in several scams too.

Shashank Manohar

He was elected as the president of BCCI twice. Shashank Manohar is a lawyer of the profession. He also became the International Cricket Council’s (ICC) first independent chairman. He was also associated Vidarbha cricket association.

Anurag Thakur

Anurag Thakur was unanimously elected as the president of BCCI. During his term, a lot of stadiums were constructed and developed. He was the second youngest president of the board since its inception. He also holds the title of youngest BCCI president after 1947.

Sourav Ganguly

Sourav Ganguly is a former Indian cricketer who has led the Indian team for several years. He became the president of BCCI in the year 2019.He stood for a second term but couldn’t get elected for it. 

Before becoming the president of BCCI, Sourav Ganguly was also the president of the Bengal Cricket Association. He held that post from 2016 to 2019. He became the president of BCCI at a very crucial time. His appointment as the president of BCCI was a celebrated affair. Cricket fans had too many expectations from him. It was thought that he would make some big changes in BCCI. However, his appointment doesn’t bring much change.

Roger Binny 

Roger Michael Humphrey Binny is the present BCCI president. He is an Indian former international cricketer. He is the 36th and the incumbent president. He became the president of BCCI in the annual meeting of the year 2022. Binny was part of the 1983 world cup winning team. Binny used to play as an all-rounder player. In a total of 57 test matches. He also played one-day international matches. He was actively associated with Karnataka Cricket Association.
